The Killarney Festival of Music & Food, the family friendly boutique festival, which is taking place on 27 & 28 June at Killarney House Demesne has an amazing line-up of kids activities which will take place across the weekend. The festival welcomes all ages and kids under 12 are FREE when accompanied by an adult.
The picturesque festival site at Killarney House Demesne is within walking distance of Killarney town. It is ideally located for families who will be staying in the numerous hotels, guest houses, self-catering accommodation and campsites around the town.
In addition to a first class line-up music and comedy line up featuring Duran Duran, Jools Holland, TEXAS, The Proclaimers, Burt Bacharach, ABC, The Undertones, Paddy Casey, Damien Dempsey, Delorentos, Walking on Cars, Apres Match, Neil Delamere, Deirdre O’Kane and Jason Byrne, a variety of children’s activities will take place over the festival weekend including Kids Yoga, Musical workshops, Storytelling, an interactive mini zoo, the Exploration Dome, Candle Making and a Helter Skelter. And Festikids will be offering a child minding service at Killarney Festival to parents.
A funfair with a number of attractions will be at Killarney Festival of Music & Food and will include a Ferris Wheel, Vintage Carousel, Wave Swinger, Chair O Plane, Dodgems and Twist Ride.
Abracadabra Story Telling
Abracadabra create and deliver interactive stories kids and parents to stimulate creativity, confidence, creating stories. They involve the audience through singing, moving, asking them questions and inviting them to be characters of stories. At Killarney Festival we will tell the Caterpillar Story and the Fairy Story.

The Caterpillar Story is the story of a little boy who is fascinated by the way caterpillars transform into butterflies. He goes on a journey of learning that change is good throughout life when handled with patience, courage and acceptance.

Where do you think fairies live? Do they live in flowers, in bushes, in trees? Or do they live in gardens? Well, fairies live closer to you than you can ever imagine! They are your best friend and they are always there with you.
The Animal Roadshow
The Animal Roadshow’s interactive mini zoo will have reptiles, small cuddly mammals and maybe even an owl for you to have a look at and learn about.
Exploration Dome
Visit the Exploration Dome here kids (and parents) will be taken on a wondrous trip through our Universe in our fully immersive 360 degree Planetarium. Did you ever wonder what it would be like to be an astronaut, swim with a shark, visit the planets and lot more in a fun, safe and interactive way? Then come see us at Killarney Festival. Cost €3
Gymboree
Gymboree programs are specially designed to help young children learn and develop as they play. Their classes also help you learn about your child — how to participate in and encourage his or her development — while enjoying the simple pleasure of playing together.
At Killarney Festival we will provide interactive music classes with our friendly clown Gymbo encouraging all the little ones to get involved.

Hula Hoops Hoop-la-Stall
Hula Hoops, one of Ireland’s favourite potato snacks, are set to make this summer, a summer full of happiness! The Hula-Hoops team are delighted to be appearing at this year Killarney Music & Food Festival, where they’ll be providing a carnival atmosphere for all the family.
Look out for custom built Hoop-la-Stall, where our Hula–Hoop Girls, will be showing you how it’s done and cheering you on to win some of our amazing prizes for our Hoop-La Challenges! Expect lots of fun and games and of course lots of golden potato hoops! #HoopFullofHappiness
Killarney Candle Makers
We are offering kid friendly candle making for this year’s festival. All our candles are made using soy wax and are a fun activity for children of all ages. Cost €3
Festi’Kidz
Parents who are hoping to enjoy a few hours of the Killarney festival ‘kid free’ can leave their children with Festi’Kidz. Festi’Kidz, a service offered by ”Last Minute Minders“ provides a child minding service so you can have a few child free hours while the kids are entertained with workshops such as mask and kite making, arts and crafts, a science centre, dress up station and music making.
Festi’kids will be holding three child minding sessions a day catering for 3 to 8 year olds – 12.30pm to 2.30pm, 2.45pm to 4.45pm and 5pm to 7pm. It is €16 per child per session if booked in advance or €20 per child per session for bookings made on the day. Places are limited to 15 kids per session. You can pre book here festikidz

Puppet Shows
Killarney Festival of Music & Food will have magic and puppet shows on both days of the festival to keep children (and adults) amazed and amused.
Sand Art Cards
Kids Sand Art Magic is a new children’s activity where kids indulge in two of their favourite pastimes playing in sand and colouring by making unique and colourful sand art cards which is placed inside a protective plastic sleeve to take home and hang it up on their wall. €2
Stomping in the Woods
Stomping In The Woods is a show for children aged 0 – 7, and bigger people! Ruti Lachs, who performs the show, has written songs for the children in the audience to join in with. So you will be waving your trunk like an elephant, stomping in imaginary woods, swimming in imaginary lakes, playing triangles and tambourines and shakers, jumping and twirling and dancing. And then collapsing to the floor for some peaceful songs, before jumping up again and turning into a magical creature that creates breakfast.
Children will get to sing, dance, and play, and stomp about a lot! Ruti has a silly hat and fairy wings, and some teddy friends, and she shows the children some very interesting musical instruments, including one that sounds like an elephant! and one that sounds like a mouse! It’s very exciting, and all action. This is a brilliant show that the children will love. And the bigger people can also enjoy joining in the stomping, happy fun!
Yoga
Yoga in Kerry will run simultaneous child and adult yoga class a couple of times throughout each day. Yoga is a complete form of exercise which develops stamina, strength and flexibility. But most importantly for the kids……it’s fun! Yoga in Kerry

Derry Clarke (L’Ecrivain, Dublin), Ross Lewis (Chapter One, Dublin) and JP McMahon (EatGalway Restaurant Group, which comprises Aniar, Cava Boedga, and Eat Gastropub), will join Sunil Ghai (Ananda Restaurant), Noel Enright (The Lake Hotel, Killarney); Paul Treyvaud (Treyvauds, Killarney); Catherine Fulvio (Ballyknocken House & Cookery School) in the Chef’s Kitchen where they will show food lovers how to prepare delicious mouth-watering dishes using locally produced, seasonal ingredients from Kerry .
The Killarney Festival Food Village will be an extensive showcase of food not only for the region of Kerry but for Ireland as a whole. It will feature local artisan food producers including Ring of Kerry Lamb, Ballinskelligs Duck, Hulberts Fine Food, Lizzy’s Little Kitchen, O’Brien’s Farmhouse Cheese, Sasta Sausages, Killarney Toffee, Valentia Island Dairy and Ballyhar Farm Produce including organic Kerry Rose Veal & Cow’s Milk.
A variety of food vendors offering cuisine from around the world will also be on site to cater for up to 20,000 festival goers over the weekend.
COMEDY
Funny men Neil Delamere, Jason Byrne, Karl Spain, John Colleary, Foil Arms & Hog, Steve Bennett, Chris Kent, Colm O’Regan, Fred Cooke and Comedy Club 4 Kids with Howard Read & Little Howard (CBBC) will provide the laughs along with recently announced Après Match and Deirdre O’Kane in the comedy tent.
