Last week I decided to try microdermabrasion at Biofresh skincare in Swords (www.biofreshskincare.ie). Microdemabrasion is very simply a deep exfoliation treatment and too be honest I really felt my skin needed a good clean.
Your skin is first cleansed and then the therapist starts the procedure using a hand-held device. No chemicals or laser beams are used, only aluminum oxide micro crystals that gently sandblast your skin, leaving it smooth and fresh. The aluminum oxide micro crystal flow is sandblasted through a small tube pressed against the skin. The tube also then vacuums back dead skin cells and used micro crystals.
I’ve been having some breakouts around my chin due to a number of factors like stress, weather, heating and hormones. I would say my body is also still detoxing after christmas!! What did surprise me though was the amount of dirt on the small pads as you can see below.
The great thing about microdermabrasion is that there is no down time and I was able to put make up on afterwards with no red blotches or swelling which is the main difference between microdermabrasion and dermabrasion. Dermabrasion goes a lot deeper and can take up to 10 days for your skin to fully recover.
Microdermabrasion can also help with acne scars, fine wrinkles and sunspots. My skin felt great in the days that followed and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to clean and freshen their skin. As you can see no matter how much we clean our skin sometimes its just not enough. The treatment improved the overall texture and feel of my skin and left it feeling much smoother.
The recommended treatment plan is 3 sessions: so once a week for 3 weeks and then a maintenance plan of a treatment about once every 3 months.
