The ability to focus can be challenging for individuals of any age but can prove particularly difficult for children. These days our senses are constantly bombarded with images and sounds, often making it difficult to switch off the “noise” of modern living. Technology, the foods we eat and a busier pace of life can be just some of the factors contributing to a decline of our attention span.

Essential oils are powerful tools for effectively improving our focus, concentration level and memory. Whether it is to elevate mood, ease tension or to feel more alert, using essential oils can help bring focus to a busy day. One of the best ways to experience the powerful benefits of essential oils and to improve brain function is to diffuse them aromatically or inhale their scent. This is a simple and quick way to initiate a quick physical and emotional response in the brain.

Using the following essential oils can be very effective for achieving mental clarity and can be of huge benefit in a learning environment. Just like adults, children can often be affected by daily stresses so it is important to create a positive and happy learning atmosphere for them.

    Top Oils for Children’s focus

    Rosemary

Applying rosemary topically under the nose or across the head, aids in improving memory and mental performance. Diffusing rosemary while children are doing homework is an ideal way to combat mental fatigue after a long day of learning. It is also a wonderful oil for emotional balance so an ideal aroma to spread around a busy house.

    Lemon

Lemon essential oil aids concentration and also reduces stress. It mixes wonderfully with Rosemary making it an ideal blend to diffuse during periods of study. Simply inhaling lemon essential oil from the bottle can elevate mood, balance emotions and improve concentration.

    Orange & Peppermint

One of my favourite combinations, combining these two oils creates a ‘focus blend’ which is both refreshing and a wonderful mood boost. Spritzing this mix on a shirt collar or inhaling the blend at the beginning of the school day helps children to start the day feeling alert and happy.

    Vetiver

Diffusing Vetiver aromatically or applying it to the feet, spine and back of neck can be an effective way to improve concentration. It is the ‘Oil of Tranquillity’ which when blended with lavender is helpful for ADHD and overall focus.

    Frankincense

Frankincense is renowned for easing tension and assisting with focus. It is commonly used when practicing meditation and is also known for its antidepressant properties. This is an ideal essential oil to use for children who are easily distracted, bored, restless or hyperactive.

    Kids Concentration Protocol

    • 2 drops wild orange
    • 2 drops Vetiver

Diffuse or spritz on collar of school shirt.

When selecting essential oils it’s important to choose 100% pure essential oils for the safest and most effective health benefits. Only certified pure therapeutic grade oils should be taken internally or used neat on the skin. Always dilute essential oils with carrier oil if applying topically to children.

Essential oils can be used aromatically to affect mood and open airways; topically for quick absorption into the body through the skin, and internally for immune & digestive support.

Essential oils are a great way to improve your health easily and quickly. Drop me a line if you’d like to learn more about using essential oils or where to purchase 100% pure oils.…
