Creative… Gracious… Deeply Insightful… Free Spirited Thinker… Leader… These are all traits of a very special person who knew from an early age that her destiny lay in leading others to greatness! Gurutej Kaur at just a young age of six, shared her destiny with her Mother and proclaimed that she would one day start her own spiritual order.
For over 40 years, Gurutej has been living her destiny and continues to awaken the spirit of all she touches. Through yoga, chanting, meditation, healing and proven stress and health management systems she teaches people how to connect to their higher consciousness. Every day she lives the meaning of her name, which translates as “the one who brings you from darkness into light at the speed of light.”
Gurutej is one of the original students of Yogi Bhajan, who is credited with bringing Kundalini Yoga to the United States. Through his instruction and spiritual guidance, Gurutej is considered a foremost authority on Kundalini Yoga and internationally recognized as one of a handful of Kundalini Yoga Masters.
She co-founded 3HO Canada, building and overseeing communities, yoga centers and businesses all over Canada for 17 years. Gurutej’s obvious head for business did not overshadow her commitment to Toronto’s children, which is why she introduced yoga to surrounding communities by teaching staff at Toronto General Hospital and students at The School House and The Alternative School.
Gurutej’s devotion to serving the essence of all has brought her to teach in India, all over Europe, South America, Canada, and the US. She has served and counseled hundreds of people ranging from movie stars and heads of businesses, to the teenagers of Hamilton High, a public school in Los Angeles, where she taught yoga for 11 years.

As a prolific writer she is an author to 3 popular books including: A Slice of the Beloved, The Moon She Rocks You, and The 13th Month: How to Get an Extra 29 Days Each Year. Her online courses The Moon She Rock You and GET YOUR ESSENCE (Skinny) back are transformative and very supportive. Her most recent inspired creation is a line of Aromatherapy Chakra Eye Pillows that are proving to be popular around the world.
She has been featured in Vogue, L.A. Yoga, Yogi Times, Fit Yoga, Common Ground, Splendora.com, The Discovery Channel and MTV. She was awarded Yogi Times’ Service Award and Teacher of the Month.
As a mother, her greatest achievement is in successfully raising two dynamic and consciously aware adult children, Amrit and Pritham who like Gurutej, take great pride in their commitment to making the world a better place.

How would you describe your lifestyle?

Great. And what does that mean? I love what I am allowed to do, teach, heal, serve. I meditate first thing each day, I get to roller blade hills daily, (when in L. A.) wedge some good yoga in there and feel blessed to eat allot of live food. I feel intimate with my life, my beloved, my students and can use all previously mentioned support tools when the Universe kicks ass. To get back quickly. It’s not about perfection it’s about how fast I can get back to empowered me.

What’s your favorite food? Naughty or nice.

Greens and Toast together and not together, oh with great organic Olive Oil. Recently discovered that Coconut Butter yes the yummy one is great for the Gut. That on toast is my treat and a treat it is.

Do you exercise and if so what do you do to keep fit?

Yes I get to go right outside my door and rollerblade hills, ocean swim (alas not enough), and do yoga.

How do you find balance in your day-to-day life?

Keep my yoga mat right next to my desk and use it during the day for a few minutes here and there. When listening to something or just listening to myself.

How do you manage stress in your life?

Breathing , chanting, meditating and here is a link if you care to use it for things I give others and yes use myself to release and rejuvenate YOU TUBE

Do you meditate?

Every day. Can’t be without. I have favorite ones that empower me and those I share with others.

People often set goals or intentions as they go through life. Is this something you do?

My Goal is to be connected to myself and to the all of it all. I do things that take me in that direction. I’m having to make a vision board for my marketing person so I will have fun but it will be a spiral for that is the way energy flows into us with most ease.

How do you unwind after a busy day?

Teach, take a walk, read, watch something funny on TV or a documentary, read mystic poetry each nite 1,2,3,4, or more poems till I am in that flow of vastness.

It’s the weekend, what do you do for fun?

I accept no weak ends. I often teach on weekends. Go visit friends, Go to farmers market, work in my garden, have friends over for dinner or go to their houses.
