Why Mental Health in the Workplace Matters More Than Ever

The conversation around mental health has come a long way, yet I really feel that we’re still only scratching the surface of what true wellbeing at work really means.

For years, success was measured by output, performance, and productivity. We have traditionally celebrated the hustle, glorified being busy, and wore burnout like a badge of honor. This was how I was trained and the messaging was to ignore my inner meltdowns behind the scenes and put my best foot forward.

Hustle culture is dying, but why?

Well very simply, it does not work. I teach about energy and how to tap into your own reserves and fill them from within. Now don’t get me wrong, you can absolutely create from hustle and you will get results but at a cost. That cost over time is your health.

I work with CEO’s who come to me surprised that the way they have always done business is simply not working any more. It’s simple really their nervous system has said NO MORE! No more fight, flight. No more stress, no more busyness. It’s similar to burning out the engine of a car by having your foot on the brake and the gas pedal at the same time.

This way of creating works until it doesn’t and people all across the world are waking up, literally and energetically, to the fact that the way we’ve been working is unsustainable.

We’re Human Beings, Not Human Doings

When we treat ourselves and others like machines, we disconnect from what actually drives performance: energy, presence, creativity, and connection.

Mental health isn’t just about managing stress or avoiding burnout — it’s about creating environments where people feel safe, supported, and seen as whole humans. It’s about understanding that wellbeing fuels performance, not the other way around.

When someone feels mentally and emotionally well, they think more clearly, collaborate more easily, and bring more of themselves to everything they do.

      Energy Is Our Greatest Currency

I often talk about energy as a form of currency. How we spend, save, and invest our energy determines the quality of our lives and this includes the workplace.

When organizations prioritize mental health, they’re really investing in energy management. They’re saying:

“We value the people behind the performance.”

This means allowing space for rest and reflection, encouraging healthy boundaries, and understanding that recovery isn’t laziness — it’s leadership.

      The Ripple Effect of Culture

A mentally healthy workplace doesn’t happen by accident. It starts with leadership — not with policies, but with presence. When leaders model vulnerability, honesty, and balance, it gives everyone else permission to do the same.

It’s the difference between a culture of silence and a culture of safety. Between pushing through and pausing. Between surviving and truly thriving.

Where Do We Go From Here?

We can’t talk about workplace success without talking about human wellbeing. The two are intertwined.

If you want your team to be innovative, engaged, and inspired, start by asking how they’re really doing. Listen without fixing. Create space without judgment.

Mental health in the workplace matters more than ever because we’re being called to work with our humanity, not against it. The future of work is conscious, compassionate, and energetically aware and when we nurture the mental and emotional health of our people, everyone rises.

      A Closing Thought

If your organization is ready to move beyond surface-level wellbeing and create real, sustainable change, I’d love to support you.

Through my keynotes, workshops, and energy management programs, I help teams understand how to spend, save, and invest their energy wisely so they can show up as their best selves at work and in life.

Because when we take care of our people’s mental and emotional health, everything else creativity, performance, connection naturally follows.
